Want to learn how to kayak? Here are some basics before you head out on a Missouri river

If you're wanting to go paddling a river, but aren't sure how to get started, here's what to keep in mind before you head out to the water.

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members Julie Carey and Todd Wilkinson along with American Canoeing Association Darrel Kerr and Ozark Mountain Paddlers held an intro to paddling one rainy April morning to share the basics on staying safe and remember the ABCs.

For paddling, you don't need to have a deathgrip on the paddles, Carey said. Rather, make a paddler's box (think square) using your arms and the paddle.
