Some familiar names and plenty of exciting prospects settled into the Hammons Field clubhouse on Sunday, as the Double-A Springfield Cardinals opening-day roster was finalized.
Perhaps the most familiar name to area fans is Luke Voit, a four-year player at Missouri State who finished off his college career in 2013 before being drafted by the Cardinals in the 22nd round.
He played mostly catcher for the Bears, but now is a full-time first baseman.
“I’m excited to be back here, I feel like I’m coming back home,” Voit said Sunday. “Guys are calling me The Mayor because I was here for four years.
