Valley Insider: Importance of early stretch goes beyond clichés for Bears

"It’s only one game in a long season" … "It means nothing more than any other game" … "We’ll take it one game at a time, and the good Lord willing, things will work out."

Those are examples of the clichés that can keep a coach employed. Or at least fill space and time.

They are being said about Missouri State’s game at Northern Iowa on Wednesday night, in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for each team.

Clichés aside, it’s by far the most intriguing of the five Valley games on tap Wednesday and Thursday. It could provide a big sneak peek about where the Bears and Panthers are headed over the next 10 weeks or so.
