It took quite a bit of overtime – and a late-night phone call between the coaches – for the Drury University men’s swimming team to come away with a victory over Missouri State in the “Duel in the Pool” at Breech Pool on Thursday night.
After the fans left and the teams were back home for the night, and the Bears with a 112-111 win, Missouri State coach Dave Collins was home flipping through the results sheet.
That’s when he noticed a scoring error in the 200-yard freestyle. That error gave a point to a Missouri State swimmer for a fifth-place finish, when it should have gone to a Drury individual.
