True freshmen playing big role for baseball Bears

There’s an adage around the game of baseball that good teams are strong up the middle of the diamond.

Catcher, shortstop and second base, and center field are some of the most key positions on a team. It’s where you want your most dependable, most experienced and most consistent players.

It’s also where two of the youngest, most inexperienced players are making a big splash for the Missouri State baseball team.

True freshmen Hunter Steinmetz (center field) and Jeremy Eierman (shortstop) have started all 31 games for the 25-6 Bears, who host Mizzou in a big in-state clash on Tuesday night at Hammons Field, and their contributions have been tough to overstate.
