This hall of fame softball player left a legacy stretching from Springfield to Peoria

Eleanor “Rudy” Rudolph might’ve been born in Springfield, but her time on softball fields across the Peoria area made her a legend.

Rudolph, a member of the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame as well as the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame, died on Jan. 19 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

The 1946 Lanphier High School graduate will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield on Monday, following a visitation and funeral service in Peoria on Saturday. She was 93 years old.

“She was such an outstanding, not only player, but an outstanding person,” said former teammate, friend and neighbor Beverly Brown.
