Sitting in his corner office at the Forsythe Athletics Center on Missouri State's campus, then-Bears defensive coordinator Ryan Beard was preparing for a day of calling recruits to assure them that head football coach Bobby Petrino wasn't going anywhere.
A knock on the door and Beard looked up to see Petrino, his father-in-law, standing there saying the two needed to talk. Unlike the many other times Petrino had swung by Beard's office to talk ball, the boss of the Bears closed the door.
"I'm heading to UNLV and I just got off the phone with Kyle (Moats)," Petrino told him.
