The home opener for the Springfield Cardinals just got a little bit bigger.
Ruben Tejada, the big-league club’s shortstop who has been out with a quadriceps injury since spring training, will be with the Double-A team on a rehab assignment. That word came from St. Louis GM John Mozeliak during a Wednesday press briefing.
Tejada signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals in spring training after being released by the Mets, as reinforcement following the thumb injury that shelved regular starter Jhonny Peralta.
In the final exhibition game, Tejada departed with a quad injury and was then placed on the 15-day disabled list.
