Bears head coach Dave Steckel tries to treat players as if they were his kids.
He said that at the memorial for Richard Nelson, a Missouri State running back who was shot and killed in Las Vegas in January.
He also said that at a press conference when he announced quarterback Breck Ruddick would be suspended for the remainder of the season in October.
Choked up on both occasions, Steckel talked about the players as if they were his own children.
“There’s nothing more rewarding than player-coach relationships,” Steckel said. “If you treat them like your kids, it means you’re fair, you’re consistent and you’re demanding.
