Springfield's favorite knife-wielding baseball player is tearing it up for the Yankees

Southwest Missouri fans for the past few years have hoped Luke Voit would have a long and successful professional career.

But instead of seeing Voit in the Cardinal whites, they're seeing him excel in pinstripes.

Voit was traded by the Cardinals to the Yankees in late July. He spent the 2016 season in Springfield and hit 19 home runs. Voit won the 2016 Texas League Home Run Derby and received a trophy knife — which is shown in a photo that runs in just about every story the News-Leader writes about him.
