A tough, tenacious and surging Helias Catholic team put a dagger in Springfield Catholic’s dreams of a state title on Friday night.
Helias made the go-ahead 3-point shot with 1:07 left and four stay-ahead free throws in the last 35 seconds to prevail 53-50 in the Show-Me Showdown Class 5 semifinal at JQH Arena.
The Crusaders continued their own quest for a championship with a deceptive 18-13 record.
Desmond White led Helias with 19 points and also totaled six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
