After thousands of votes were gathered over a week-long tournament, Payne Stewart was voted as the winner of our "Face of Springfield Area Sports" online voting tournament.
Stewart beat out legendary Lady Bear Melody Howard Elliott in the championship round that lasted from Friday morning to late Sunday night.
The late golfer was born and raised in Springfield and attended Greenwood Laboratory School on the campus of Missouri State.
Stewart won three major championships during his career — two at the U.
