O’Neal redshirts, preserves final year of eligibility

Missouri State University head football coach Ryan Beard announced Friday, Oct. 3 that safety J.J. O’Neal has decided to redshirt this season.

After not playing in the contest against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers last Saturday, the fourth-year Bear from Rogersville, Missouri will not be active for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. According to Beard at Friday’s press conference, O’Neal took this action after he seemingly did not enjoy how the team used him in the first four weeks.

“I don’t think he liked his role that he was currently in,” Beard said. “And, it’s a decision he made.
