Missouri State made a switch at quarterback late in the Sept. 30 loss to North Dakota State, but Bears coach Dave Steckel said it was the plan all along.

In a phone interview with the News-Leader, Steckel said the coaches decided Thursday — before the game — to give Rice-transfer quarterback J.T. Granato some reps during the third quarter.

Granato didn't replace starting quarterback Peyton Huslig until the fourth quarter because Huslig was moving the offense through the running game.

"We were moving the ball really well and then something bit us in the foot," Steckel said, referring to Huslig's three interceptions.
