With just 27 seconds remaining, the Missouri State women's soccer team fell to Valparaiso University at home in its first Missouri Valley Conference game of the season on Sep. 23.
Valpo dominated the game with 25 shots, more than double the 12 shot attempts by MSU. As Valpo is new to the MVC this season, it marked the first time the two teams matched up against each other.
“We watched film and tried to come up with tactics to pick them apart and see what we could do against them,” sophomore midfielder Ashley Coonfield said. “We looked at their formation, they played in a 3-5-1 so our goal was to surpass their midfield block quickly, then we’d have numbers up against their three backs and attack on the flanks.
