Whenever Mount Vernon needed a big play on Friday night, it knew its star receiver was going to be open.
And Rafe Darter made the biggest play when the Mountaineers needed it the most.
Mount Vernon's star receiver was voted as the Springfield News-Leader's Week 1 High School Football Player of the Week.
Darter finished a 21-13 win over Cassville on Friday with 12 catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns — one of which came in the final seconds with a 38-yard touchdown catch on a 50-50 ball to break a tie and give the Mountaineers the win.
