Missouri State will host a public memorial service to honor Richard Nelson, the freshman football player who was shot and killed in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The service is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Plaster Student Union Theater on campus.
Nelson, 18, was shot multiple times outside his house in Las Vegas, as police say he was trying to protect his older sister in a fight with several other people.
Police say he pulled someone off his sister, then the person shot Nelson three times in the back and once in the chest.
