Missouri State football set to host UT-Martin in historic home FCS Playoff game

Nearly 31 years ago to the day, Bobby Petrino sat in the Plaster Stadium press box as he coached the Idaho Vandals offense against the DeAndre Smith-led Bears.

On that November day in 1990, the Bears couldn't stop the Vandals' top receiver while the Vandals couldn't stop Smith. The Vandals knocked in two late field goals to come away with a 41-35 victory.

Petrino's offense racked up 578 yards of total offense in front of 8,750 fans.

No playoff game has been played in Springfield since.

That will change Saturday afternoon.

Missouri State will host UT-Martin in the first round of the FCS Playoffs at 3 p.
