Missouri State football gets its $600,000. Were there other positives in MSU's loss to Oklahoma?

NORMAN, Okla. — After an offseason of wondering whether Missouri State and Oklahoma would hit the gridiron, it actually happened on Saturday night.

Oklahoma defeated Missouri State 48-0 in a season-opener in front of a 22,700 "sell-out" crowd at Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium.

Yes, Missouri State will receive its critical $600,000 payment for its athletics program for playing the game when it planned this offseason out of precaution to lose it.

The payment will be a major boost for an athletics program that already had a $650,000 shortfall following the NCAA Tournament's cancelation and a program that will have to plan for further revenue shortfalls because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
