The St. Louis Cardinals announced Thursday that Matt Carpenter is expected to join Springfield on a rehab assignment starting Thursday night at Hammons Field.
Carpenter is currently rehabbing a foot contusion during what has been a difficult season for the infielder.
He is expected to join the Springfield team for team activities Thursday night and is expected to begin playing during Friday's 7:10 p.m. game against Amarillo.
