Luke Weaver was a late arrival to the Springfield Cardinals, and he’s making an early departure from the Double-A team, as well.
The right-handed pitching prospect continued his quick ascent up the chain in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system on Wednesday, being promoted to Triple-A Memphis.
The Florida State product came to Double-A on June 4, having sat out the early portion of the season after suffering a broken left (non-throwing) wrist in a spring training collision while shagging balls during batting practice.
The lanky 6-foot-2, 170-pounder didn’t show any rust, flashing his fastball that topped the 95-mph mark early and often.
