Hillcrest boys basketball coach Joel Brown shook hands with the man who helped guide his career for five years.
Kickapoo coach Dick Rippee wore the brown and gold of the Chiefs, but Brown sported the orange and blue of Hillcrest in the first meeting as peers between mentor and mentee. Kickapoo won the Blue Division game of the 70th Greenwood Blue and Gold Tournament, 77-49, surging into the lead for good on a 14-2 run in the third quarter.
“It’s nice to have a friend like Joel that is a very good coach that you can visit with,” Rippee said.
