Kelly, Weaver collect Cardinals' top minor-league honors for 2016

Two top-level prospects who spent a significant portion of the 2016 season with Double-A Springfield — catcher Carson Kelly and pitcher Luke Weaver — have been named the Cardinals’ Minor League Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year.

Kelly started the year in Springfield and hit .289 with six home runs and 32 RBIs in 96 games combined with the Double-A team and Triple-A Memphis.

The second-round draft pick from 2012 made his major league debut on Sept. 4, becoming the youngest Cardinals catcher to play in the big leagues since Yadier Molina did so at 21 years and 326 days in 2004.
