Johnson making himself at home on Valley awards lists

Alize Johnson’s first week in the Missouri Valley Conference was one to remember.

The Missouri State junior was named the league’s Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week on Monday, the second time this season he has swept the league honors in his first 15 Division I games.

Johnson recorded his seventh and eighth double-doubles of the season last week, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears won at Northern Iowa on Wednesday, then dominated in a 30-point, 15-rebound performance in an overtime home win over Indiana State on Saturday.

Johnson is just the third Valley player since 1998 to record 30 points and 15 rebounds in the same game, and the first to do it in a league game since Illinois State's Rico Hill did it on Jan.
