MSHSAA announced Thursday morning that the Class 3, 4 and 5 state high school track and field championships that were to be played in Jefferson City have been suspended.
MSHSAA said in a tweet to not travel to the state's capital city and that more information will be made available later Thursday.
A "violent tornado" tore through central Missouri late Wednesday night, injuring more than a dozen people, damaging buildings and flinging shingles and insulation into the streets.
The full extent of the damage was still unclear as day broke Thursday morning.
State track and field championships were to be played at Jefferson City High School.
