The St. Louis Cardinals fired manager Mike Matheny late Saturday night and the man announced to fill the role is a familiar face to Springfield Cardinals fans.
Former Springfield Cardinals manager Mike Shildt will be the interim manager after serving as the team's bench coach.
Shildt has been a member of the Cardinals organization since 2004 and has been on the big league squad's coaching staff the last two seasons.
The former Springfield skipper coached in the Queen City from 2012-14.
