Iguana found on streets of Springfield euthanized due to extensive tumor on his bladder

A male iguana rescued from the streets of Springfield several years ago was euthanized this week due to a tumor.

Dickerson Park Zoo officials shared the news via social media that Benji was humanely euthanized Feb. 15 because of "a very extensive tumor adhered to his bladder."

The zoo's medical team performed surgery but soon realized that the tumor was too much and they made the tough decision to euthanize so Benji would not suffer.

The iguana didn't have the happiest of dispositions.

"Benji was known for his rather unpleasant attitude, not uncommon in grown male iguanas," according to the zoo.
