Hunting needed to control snow geese boom

While doing some yard work this week, I heard the sound of snow geese passing overhead. It was the first wave of these big birds heading south. There must have been thousands flying by before the final flock flew out of sight. It's easy to see why the snow geese are causing problems in their breeding grounds.

The number of snow geese has tripled since the 1960s, to as many as 6 million today and they are literally destroying their fragile Arctic breeding grounds, causing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to look for ways to bring this mushrooming population to a level that their habitat can sustain.
