At Kirby High School in Memphis, Tennessee, a greenhouse adjacent to the school was torn down and was going to be replaced to help improve the school's career and technical program.
But when construction began, an unpleasant surprise wreaked havoc on the school and its football program.
When the greenhouse was torn down, a nest of rats scurried inside the school. They got into the walls. The building smelled awful. They couldn't be contained.
So the school shut down.
'An unavoidable act of nature'
The rat infestation threatened to keep students out of the building for the remainder of the semester.
