High school football: Fair Grove's mistakes prove costly in district championship loss to Lamar

FAIR GROVE —The Lamar Tigers added another chapter to their storied program’s volume of playoff lore. The 50-25 final score in the Class 2, District 4 championship game at Fair Grove High School on Friday night would suggest otherwise – but the Tigers had to work for this one.

Lamar – in the unfamiliar position of No. 2 seed in the district playoffs – trailed Fair Grove, 19-14, in the third quarter after Eagles’ quarterback David Oplotnik engineered an 89-yard touchdown drive to open the second half. The six-play drive took just 59 seconds off the clock.

The Fair Grove defense stalled Lamar on the next possession and forced the Tigers to punt on fourth-and-long from midfield — but then disaster struck for the Eagles.
