At the age of 45, Vicki Jacobson decided she needed a good way to boost her fitness level, especially with long hours in a graduate school program in her future.

She turned to running.

"I needed something to keep me fit and active," said Jacobson, now 49.

She joined a local running group but cut her teeth competitively with the Girls Just Wanna Run race that was recommended to her as a good event to try running with others.

After completing her first 5k (3.1-mile) race, she was hooked. She now has completed numerous 5k races and six half marathons.
