Bill Virdon was the first manager to lead the Houston Astros to the playoffs when he did so in 1980.

Thirty-seven years later, Virdon sat in the living room of his Springfield home and watched his former team win its first World Series in franchise history.

"We were rooting for them," Virdon said. "They played really good and they earned it. It was interesting because you never knew what was going to happen."

The Missouri Sports Hall of Famer has had his home in Springfield since 1960, the same year he won the World Series as a player with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
