JOHNSTON — It’s late in the afternoon on a January day as the top-ranked Johnston girls basketball team prepares for its game with Dowling Catholic. The Dragons, who are in the middle of a scrimmage with their scout team, surrender a turnover and start to get back on defense. As one of the boys the Dragons use for the scout team pushes the ball up the floor, he finds 23-year-old Elle Ruffridge in the corner.
Ruffridge, who is wide open, promptly knocks down a 3-pointer.
The shot is so perfect it barely rattles the net as it goes through.
