It’s almost time to catch the trout you keep rather than releasing them back to the water.
The summer season begins March 1 at Missouri Department of Conservation’s fish hatcheries, including Roaring River, Bennett Springs, Montauk and Maramec Spring.
MDC spokesman Francis Skalicky said the first day of summer season is March 1 through Oct. 31.
“Everybody calls it trout season, even some of our folks call it trout season,” Skalicky said. “But, technically, it’s the summer season at our four trout parks.”
An estimated 10,000 anglers came out in 2020 for the start of summer season.
