A black bear cub was killed on James River Freeway on Thursday night, hours after it was seen wandering a south Springfield neighborhood.

Home surveillance caught footage of the cub near Lark Street and Kansas Avenue, a rare sighting in the city limits that sparked a big social media response.

Many of the commenters noted the cuteness of the baby animal, including the Springfield Police Department. SPD used a series of bear puns in its Facebook and Twitter posts that warned residents not to feed or approach the cub.

"We've got a beary adorable cub wandering around in south Springfield," a portion of SPD's post read.
