When the fans would roar, Vince Coleman says they gave him power.
The electricity of Busch Stadium would climb to a fever pitch as he anticipated the pitcher’s first movement, and then explode when Coleman popped up safely at second base in a cloud of dust.
“I came to the ballpark every day to please the fans because that’s what thrilled me,” Coleman says. “I could hear them every time I got on base, and the electricity kept raising every day, every moment, every pitch. There’s nothing like playing in front of St. Louis fans.”
Coleman stole the sixth-most bases in MLB history (752).
