Clock ticking on Missouri State athletics budget fix

More than a year after Missouri State President Clif Smart gave the edict that a shortfall in the school’s athletics department budget needs to be fixed, the challenge remains.

It is an even bigger one for administrators, given the formation of a work group earlier this year to find $750,000 in cuts to athletics expenses – unrelated to the budget woes.

Smart has said he expects the work group’s recommendations by the end of this month. Given the scope of the numbers, the elimination of entire athletic programs may be inevitable.

“Everything’s on the table, absolutely,” Director of Athletics Kyle Moats said earlier this month.
