Certain carp fish could be removed from Missouri invasive species list, used as live bait

A proposed change would add the use of grass carp and common carp as live bait, per conservation officials. A public comment period is slated for March.

The Missouri Conservation Commission gave initial approval at its Jan. 22 open meeting to proposed regulation changes from the Missouri Department of Conservation, according to a news release.

"The new regulations follow public requests to catch and use common and grass carp as live bait," MDC stated.

Proposed change would open up use of common, grass carp

Per the department, the proposed regulations would:

  • Remove common carp and grass carp from the definition of invasive fish.
