Not many players are capable of helping their school snap a 34-year drought without a district title.
Then again, not every player is like Makaiya Brooks.
That's only part of the reason why she's the News-Leader's 2020-21 Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Brooks, a University of Memphis signee, ended her career as one of the great players to put on a uniform in southwest Missouri. She also helped the Central Lady Bulldogs capture their first district championship since 1987 this past season.
“That was the best moment I’ve ever had in my life,” Brooks said.
