The Springfield Cardinals announced Monday night that pitcher Carlos Martinez is expected to make a rehab appearance out of the bullpen in Springfield on Wednesday.
Martinez, a two-time National League All-Star, opened the 2019 season on the Injured List with a rotator cuff injury.
The pitcher has appeared in four games for the Low-A Peoria Chiefs and Memphis Redbirds during his rehab assignment. He's thrown 4.2 scoreless relief innings while striking out six batters, allowing one hit and four walks.
Martinez was a member of Springfield's 2012 Texas League Championship team and threw seven scoreless innings in Game 1 of the Texas League Championship.
