Missouri State will indeed have a new starting quarterback behind center when the Bears travel to Oklahoma State to open their season on Saturday.
Jason Shelley, a senior quarterback transfer from Utah State, was announced by second-year head coach Bobby Petrino on Monday afternoon.
Shelley had been playing the majority of the snaps with the starters throughout preseason scrimmages that were open to the media. He beat out former starter Jaden Johnson and backup Jake Van Dyne for the spot.
Before Missouri State, the 5-foot-11 quarterback played at both Utah State and Utah.
In 2020, he started four games for Utah State and finished the season completing 51.
