Another close call, but the Bears refuse to fall.
Missouri State (33-14, 14-0) survived an 11-inning Missouri Valley Conference game with Southern Illinois to win 7-4. The Bears remain the nation’s only undefeated team in conference play.
After the Salukis walked Justin Paulsen and Jake Burger to lead off the 11th, Jeremy Eierman’s 18th home run of the season gave the Bears a 7-4 lead.
Getting to that point was the difficult part.
Bryan Young proved to be Missouri State’s hero as he got the Bears through a couple tight spots.
With the winning run on second in the ninth, Young was brought in to strike one out and force one to ground out to end the inning.
