Hearing the number made Missouri State baseball coach Keith Guttin’s eyes get big.
17 walks.
“That’s a lot of walks,” Guttin said after his Bears broke a 42-year-old record for walks drawn in a single game, in Tuesday night’s 15-4 victory over Saint Louis before a crowd of 616 at Hammons Field.
The 17 walks were given out by six different SLU pitchers, and helped Missouri State (23-5) score four runs in the first inning on one hit, two runs in the fifth on no hits, one run in the seventh on no hits, and five runs in the eighth on three hits.
