It sat empty for 12 years. Some folks who drove along U.S. 65 regarded the empty stadium as an eyesore.
Over the years, weeds grew as the gates to Ducks Stadium remained closed. Kids played summer games on dirt and grass maintained by volunteers rather than groundskeepers. The stadium was a reminder of the long lost heyday of minor league baseball in Christian County, and a shell of what it was when it was built.
With the Ozark Mountain Ducks long gone, a youth league occupied the stadium for six years, but left to move into Springfield in 2015.
