At least 4 bears harvested in Missouri's first-ever bear hunt as of Tuesday morning

The first few days are already successful for Missouri's first-ever bear hunt.

Four hunters successfully harvested at least four bears as of Tuesday morning, according to Francis Skalicky with Missouri Department of Conservation.

Two were killed yesterday and two Tuesday morning, Skalicky said via email.

"All of these have been in Zone 1, which is here in southwest Missouri," he said. "At the hunters’ requests, we’re not providing names, addresses, location of harvest, etc."

There are 400 permits offered for the state’s first black bear hunting season Oct. 18-27. The maximum harvest for the season will be 40 bears.
