It took about an hour in Saturday’s final day of the MLB draft for players with Missouri State connections to hear their names called.
Then a couple of picks came in a cluster.
Infielder Keith Grieshaber, a Missouri State signee who put up big numbers at Jefferson College, was taken in the 16th round by the Los Angeles Angels, with the 486th pick overall.
Bears outfielder Spencer Johnson, who led all of Division I in home runs as a senior, went with the very next pick, to the Houston Astros.
Johnson made himself into an attractive draft prospect with a senior season when he hit 24 homers, drove in 70 runs and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
