If Alize Johnson wasn’t already a front-runner for Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year, the junior basketball player for Missouri State certainly solidified his case over the weekend.
Johnson helped key the Bears’ come-from-behind victory at Drake, scoring 23 points Saturday night to go with a career-high and Knapp Center-record 21 rebounds in a 76-73 victory.
The victory means Missouri State will likely not sink to the No. 7 seed in the final league standings, and will sit out the play-in round for the Valley tournament for only the second time in the last five seasons.
