The first official elk-hunting season has ended in success. All five permit-holders have taken home a bull elk each.

An archery portion ran Oct. 17-25, but hunters had no luck. The firearms portion began Dec. 12 and ended Dec. 20. Missouri Department of Conservation congratulated the hunters.

“What an exciting gift right before the holidays to see all five hunters harvest elk in this first inaugural elk season in Missouri,” said Sara Parker Pauley, MDC director, via news release. “This success also showcases the hard work and collaboration of our Commission, staff, partners, landowners, and citizens.”

“One of the hunters called me personally just a few minutes after he harvested an elk full of excitement and thanks, but the real thanks goes to the bigger team for making this happen,” she continued.
