30 years in one place - Central coach Looney set to retire

When a man has spent 30 years coaching teenagers, he is bound to reach a point where they realize his age. Central High School's junior varsity boys basketball coach Byron Looney wears the age jokes with honor.

“(The players) rib him all the time for being old. He catches a lot of flak for that," Central varsity coach Armando Johnson said.

Looney will retire after this season, his 30th at Central. Like the jokes of honor, Looney's time at Central speaks to a “Bulldog spirit” that never left the laid back and affable Looney, and Looney never left Central High School.
