Eleven Springfield athletes will have the chance to swim for state championships Saturday in St. Peters.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association Girls State Swimming Championship opened Friday afternoon at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
Falcons senior Macie Beairsto qualified for the state championship final of the 200-yard freestyle, finishing second to Rock Bridge’s Kelly Tackett in the prelims by 36 hundredths of a second. Beairsto is the defending state champion in the 200-yard freestyle race.
Beairsto is also the reigning state champion in the 100-yard freestyle, but this year the Florida State University signee entered the 100-yard butterfly as her second individual event.
